Tampa Debt Attorney

Kim Byrd, Of Counsel at McCarthy Law PLC Tampa

Kim Byrd Tampa debt attorneyYou have probably heard ads on Tampa radio and late night television advertise ways to make easy money and reduce your debt.  Some debt programs promise to reduce your debt through consolidation or debt settlement.  Other companies sell programs that claim will solve all your financial problems in no time and without any effort.  Some scams make outrageous claims that prey on people who are desperate and looking for solutions and hope.  Many good people in Tampa, looking for an honest way out from under financial burdens, have often been trapped by one of these programs.  Outrageous claims like these are frustrating to an attorney that has real answers and offers real solutions to people with financial problems.  Debt challenges can quickly become legal challenges and non-lawyers simply aren’t capable of helping in the ways that are needed.

Kim Byrd is our Tampa debt settlement attorney and has almost 20 years of experience working with the good people of Tampa.  He enjoys meeting with each client in person prior to them engaging the firm and is interested in knowing that he can help save you a significant amount of money.  Also, he understands you cannot afford an expensive attorney so the firm is paid from a portion of the savings we are able to secure for you.  He is compassionate and dedicated and has your best interest in mind.  He will listen to your personal story then discuss your options and help create a solution tailored specifically for you.

What Types of Debt Can Be Settled?

Unsecured debt makes up the majority of what we negotiate.

  • Credit Card Debt
  • Private Student Loan Debt
  • Personal Loans
  • SBA Loan Debt
  • IRS Tax Debt

Can I Afford It?

One misconception is that a debt attorney will be more expensive than a debt settlement company.  An experienced debt settlement law firm will cost less and offer real legal protection against lawsuits and creditor attorneys.  An attorney will get better settlements and save you far more money than he will cost you.  In fact, a debt settlement attorney often costs less to completely eliminate your debt than you currently pay in one year of interest.  Signing with McCarthy Law means no more minimum payments and no more interest and finance charges.  You will be able to step off that human hamster wheel and onto a path to becoming debt free.  The reason our debt settlement program works is our debt attorneys and staff will negotiate for large reductions in your principal, interest and fees so that you will owe far less than your current balance reflects now.  We will create a program that fits within your financial constraints and timeline.

I Did Not Know That

So many good families in Tampa don’t know there are lots of alternatives to bankruptcy, and there are great options available to them.   Most people don’t discuss their financial trials openly with others, and hardships are generally kept private because people are embarrassed about their situation, and how severe the problem has become.  At McCarthy Law, we help people every day in Tampa that are in the same situation as you. Our staff is caring and compassionate and we love helping people get their lives back.  You are not alone in your burdens and we will help you understand all of your options so you can make the very best decision for you and your family.

How an Attorney with Debt Experience Can Help You

There are many ways a debt attorney can help you that debt settlement companies cannot.  First, we will work with your creditors to negotiate to significantly reduce your unsecured debts for a fraction of what they claim you owe now. McCarthy Law can also help you reduce your interest rates, avoid Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy, and stop the harassing calls from your creditors and collection agencies.    Representation from an attorney can help you minimize the monthly payments you are making now, and avoid foreclosure on your home.

When is the Right Time?

If you are having trouble sleeping, having a difficult time making your minimum payments, or have basically the same balances as you did a year ago, the time is now.  It’s time to make an appointment to meet with an experienced attorney and let us show you how we can help you become debt free.  Kim Byrd understands what struggles the good people of the Tampa area are facing and believes that the keys to long-term success are unfailing integrity, strong knowledge of the law, and excellent communication with his clients. He will take the time to meet with you and discuss your options with you and create an individual plan that will work best for you and your family.  Whether you are struggling with credit card debt or student loan debt, we can represent you and work hard to negotiate in your behalf to reduce your debt.

How Long Will it Take?

Federal law requires credit card companies to show how long it will take you to pay off the balance.  The number of years is on your monthly statement and is based on making the minimum payments at your current interest rate.  It doesn’t take into account an increase in interest rates if you miss a payment, or send in a payment late, or purchase something in the future with the card.  It is not uncommon for us to see statements that have 15 years or more, which is depressing and nearly impossible to actually do.  This is why McCarthy Law and our experienced team negotiates for significant reductions in your debt.  Our Tampa clients are typically out of debt in 6 – 36 months, which is only possible when the outrageous interest is turned off and the balance is drastically reduced.  Debt settlement done properly by an attorney gives families their financial lives back and we are thrilled to be a part of that.  6 months to 36 months isn’t an overnight fix but for those who have been buried in debt for years and have been paying their minimums without seeing much progress, the thought of making real headway on your debt quickly is very motivating.

The ‘Do Nothing Plan’ or the ‘No Plan, Plan’

The longer you wait, the fewer options you will have, and denial often goes hand in hand with overwhelming debt issues.  We have seen clients who have completely stopped opening their mail because the debt is too much to handle and induces so much stress and anxiety.  In addition, procrastinating will only give your creditors a bigger advantage and more options.  Ironically, hope for a brighter future also works against people when they believe that things will get better even though their situation has not changed.  Hoping for the raise or the bonus that never comes or is needed elsewhere when it finally does come, perpetuates your debt problems because you continue to wait for brighter days and don’t make any changes to your lifestyle or seek help.  You may have had high balances for years without making much of a dent, and not having a plan year after year is in fact a plan unto itself, it’s just not a good one.
