Alison E. Cordova is Lead Attorney and San Francisco debt lawyer in the McCarthy Law PLC San Francisco, California office and a member of the California Bar. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Pre-Law from Columbia University. While at Columbia, Alison competed as a member of the varsity softball team and was elected by her teammates to represent their interests to the Undergraduate Athletic Council. Alison received her Juris Doctor Degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law where she graduated cum laude. While at Hastings, Alison won the Witkin Award and the Cali Award for being the top student in Negotiation and Settlement and was published in the Hastings’ Constitutional Law Quarterly. Upon graduation, she received highest honors for outstanding achievement in pro bono from Hastings and the California State Bar.
Prior to joining McCarthy Law, Alison worked in plaintiff’s side litigation for over four years and gained extensive experience in all stages of litigation and strategy. She brought claims against large companies on behalf of individuals and small businesses, focusing on complex financial issues such as tax shelters, accountant malpractice, and appraiser negligence. For two of those years, Alison also managed the law firm’s finances and accounting, which further refined her financial expertise. Additionally, she freelance consulted with various corporations and entrepreneurs on business transactions and financial issues, including entity formation, transactions, contract drafting and review, cash flow analysis, and taxation.
Before her legal career as a San Francisco debt lawyer, Alison worked to reform education and help disadvantaged students. She taught pre-calculus and trigonometry to low-income high school students in New York City and volunteered as an SAT-prep tutor. After teaching, Alison worked as an education policy associate at the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California. This involved collaborating with attorneys, elected officials, and various other stakeholders to develop and execute public policy campaigns and legislative reforms.
